What are the things a diabetic patient should be aware about?
- Routine visit to your Doctor (preferably once every 3 months)
- Do the annual and periodic labs as recommended by your Doctor. Diabetic panel includes labs to check for Diabetic Nephropathy, cholesterol, etc.
- In the event of even mild chest pain, exertional dyspnea, Dizziness or weakness please contact your doctor immediately (It could be the beginning of a major CV event like heart attack or stroke). When suggested by the doctor do the relevant cardiac workup (Please DO NOT postpone or ignore)
Follow healthy diet patterns:
- Diet that is high in fibre.
- Green leafy vegetables.
- Reduce the consumption of deep fried or oily items.
- Drinking 10-12 glasses of water per day is advised.
- Doing daily aerobic activities like, walking, swimming, biking, or dancing for at least 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week is recommended.
- Annual eye check up to look for early changes of diabetes in the eye (Diabetic retinopathy) is advised.
