Arrival Of A Lady Doctor
In the state of Madhya Pradesh, in the village of Khokri, people had to travel 350 kilometers to reach a medical facility. Even so, women would hardly receive adequate or appropriate care. It seemed the women’s fate lay in succumbing to their illness if they ever fell sick. The men of the community would often ignore their wife’s illness and enter into a relationship with other women, resulting in broken marriages. With the death of a mother and father remarrying, a lot of children were being orphaned.
Dr. Babitha was heartbroken to hear this and seeing the illness and brokenness among the people, she decided to be their doctor, on the days she was visiting the village. They made a makeshift treatment place, by dividing a hall with sections of clothes. After examining the patients, it became apparent that many of them required emergency surgery as their gynecological illnesses had spread. For people depending on daily wages, making arrangements to get seventy thousand to two lakhs rupees was a very difficult task. Even if the villagers travel 350 kilometers to reach the government hospital, it lacked facilities to provide surgical assistance to these women. It was under such circumstances that the Navjeevan team decided to use their skills as a surgeon to help these villagers, along with the help of others who could support this cause. The villagers had been patiently waiting for someone to come help them out of their distress for 3 long years. And at the end of their hopeful and eager waiting, it finally looked like their answer had arrived in the form of the Navjeevan Surgery Team.
